Sixtyish social worker, Louisa Daniel, is divorced, harried and usually late to work much to the consternation of Charles, her boss at the Contra Costa County, California social service agency where she is employed. The fatal "accident" of Leticia, a coworker, changes Louisa's life and turns her to amateur detective work. She and her coworkers inherit Leticia's caseload, which involves Louisa in more than just sorting out broken lives. She also has to sort through Leticia's tangled personal and professional doings, and that leads to complications for more than just Leticia's clients.
